Do Golden Doodles shed?

To be honest, the answer to this question is one of the main factors that played into us adding Bella, our female Golden Doodle, into our family. We were on the hunt for a large breed family dog with little to no shedding. With those two stipulations, our options were limited.

However, to fully answer the question on shedding we need to get a bit technical. But, stay with me and you might just learn a bit more about the Golden Doodle breed than anticipated.

First Generation Golden Doodles

Golden Doodles are a hybrid breed - a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. First generation Golden Doodles make marvelous family pets. They pick up the friendly, lovable disposition of the Golden Retriever and the attentive, trainable side of the Poodle.

In addition, the no-shedding trait of the Poodle significantly minimizes the shedding of the Golden Retriever. First generation Golden Doodles are classified as a low-shedding breed and are compatible for most families with mild allergies.

Backcross (F1B) Golden Doodles

To achieve hypo-allergenic, no-shedding puppies, Doodles of NC breeds our first generation Golden Doodles back to a Poodle.

Our resulting backcross (F1B) precious, snuggly, Golden Doodle puppies are non-shedding. They are recommended for any families with severe allergies as well as any other families looking to keep covers off living room furniture and fur bunnies out of the hallways.
