Doodles of NC Puppy Health Guarantee
At Doodles of NC, we are confident that our puppies will be wonderfully healthy and happy when we send them home. We want our clients to be as comfortable purchasing one of our puppies as we are selling them to them. For this reason, all of our puppies now come home with a 1-year health guarantee.
Items Covered in a Health Guarantee
Finding a breeder that offers a Puppy Health Guarantee, does not always mean they are a reputable breeder. Read the fine print!
Although breeders can not guarantee that their puppies will be free of any genetic health concerns typical to the breed, (and run from any breeders who say otherwise), the health guarantee should lay out your options should a rare condition manifest.
12-month Guarantee
Some clients ask why the Puppy Health Guarantees only last for one year. The rationale behind this is that nearly all indicators of genetic disorders and abnormalities surface during the first 12-months of a puppy's life. So, having the 1-year time frame helps both the clients and the sellers in two ways:
Helps ensure that a licensed veterinarian is examining the puppy on a regular basis.
Minimizes risk of environmental factors contributing to poor health.
The Healthy Puppy Guarantee relieves the buyers of responsibility should any untreatable health conditions arise.
Goldendoodle Genetic Testing
The first step in being able to confidently provide a health guarantee, on our F1B Goldendoodle puppies, was receiving genetic testing on our puppy parents. All parents passed the genetic testing which covers genetic abnormalities and diseases typical to the Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds.
Not only have our puppy parents passed the rigorous genetic testing, but our puppy’s parents parents (AKA puppy grandparents!) passed as well. So, two generations awarded a clean bill of health stand behind our health guarantee.
Goldendoodle Health Conditions
Being a mixed breed, Goldendoodles may develop health conditions common to both Golden Retrievers and Poodles, especially if you aren’t cautious about whom you buy from. They include hip dysplasia, a skin disease called sebaceous adenitis, a heart condition called subvalvular aortic stenosis, Addison’s disease, and eye diseases such as progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts and glaucoma.
We recommend asking your breeder to show evidence that both of a puppy’s parents have passed genetic testing. Doodles of NC prides ourselves in having this proof readily accessible to any clients who request to know more.
Health Exam on Puppies
In addition, we add another layer of security on our Puppy Health Guarantee. Prior to heading home, our puppies are examined by a licensed veterinarian and screened for common abnormalities such as hernias and cleft palates.
Doodles of NC stands behind the health and quality of the puppies we breed. If you have any questions regarding additional terms on our Puppy Health Guarantee, or purchasing puppies from a breeder, please don’t hesitate to contact us today!
